Nigeria has its own unique way on shawarma which includes a variety of very flavorful ingredients , here’s a simple recipes or making Nigeria_ style shawarma.
ingredients:
- Boneless chicken ( cut into thin strips)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon of paprika
- 1 teaspoon of curry powder
- 1 teaspoon of thyme
- Shredded carrot
- Shredded cabbage
- salt to taste
- 2 tablespoon of vegetable oil
- 3 large tortilla wraps
- 1 cup of mayonnaise
- White vinegar ( optional)
- Hot sauce ( optional)
- ketchup
- white pepper
Directions:
- In a bowl , add the garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, curry powder, thyme, white pepper and salt for form a spice mix. season the sliced chicken with the spice mix, ensuring that its evenly coated and let it marinate for at least 30 minutes, or put it in a fridge for a few hours for more flavor
.
2 .Heat the vegetable oil over a medium heat add the marinated chicken and fry until its slightly brown, set aside. To create the shawarma sauce , in a bowl mix the mayonnaise, ketchup ,chill sauce , white vinegar and hot sauce ( if using ) adjust the ingredients to your taste preference.
3 Warm the tortilla wrap for a few seconds until pliable, assemble the shawarma and spread a generous amount of shawarma sauce onto each tortilla wrap.
4. Place a handful of shredded cabbage , carrot on top of the sauce.
5. Add a portion of the cooked or fried chicken to the tortilla wrap.
6. Roll the tortilla tightly ,folding in the sides to ensure that the fillings are secured, Repeat the process for the remaining wraps, optionally you can grill the shawarma on a preheated grill to achieve a crispy texture and cut them into half for easy serving.
