5 simple steps to make Chinchin at home.

Chin chin  is a great snack for sharing with family and friends that is crunchy and slightly sweet.

  • 4 cups of all_ purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon of salt( depending on the quantity you are making).
  • 2 cups of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon of grounded nutmeg( optional) for flavor
  • butter or  margarine( softened)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups of whole milk( adjust as needed)
  • vegetable oil for frying.

Directions:

  1.  In a large mixing bowl, add all the dry ingredients together like flour, baking powder, sugar, salt and nutmeg.

2. Add the butter or margarine to the dry ingredients and mix until the mixture looks like a breadcrumbs.

   

3. beat the eggs in a separate bowl, then add them to the bowl of mixture. mix well to incorporate  into the the mixture, slowly add milk or water , little at a time ,knead with your hands until it forms a smooth dough, remember not to make the dough too hard or too soft.

   

4. Roll the dough to about 1/4 inches thickness ( depending on your preferred size) , cut using a knife or pizza cutter.                                                                                                                                       

5. Heat up the oil in a deep frying pan over a medium heat, fry the chin chin in batches until they are golden brown and crispy , please don’t overcrowd the pan while frying, remove from the fire using a slotted spoon, place them on a pepper towel  to enable it drain off the excess oil.

Let it cool completely , then store them in an airtight container. You can customize the above recipe by adding flavors like vanilla or by dusting the chin chin with powered sugar after frying, you can also experiment with shapes and sizes to make them unique.
